This beautifully illustrated hardcover book was born from a deep connection to the sea; a place that’s always helped me find calm in the chaos. Set at the iconic Crystal Crescent Beach in Nova Scotia, My Anger Is a Wave reminds us that, just like the ocean, our emotions rise and fall but always return to stillness.
At its heart, this story helps children understand that big feelings, like anger, are completely natural, and that with mindfulness, patience, and love, they can learn to ride their emotional waves with calm and courage.
The story features my lovable American Bully, Drako, whose gentle spirit and unconditional love have been a grounding force through every wave of life. His presence became the heart behind this story… a true soul dog.
Written by Alissa Comeau and brought to life through the artwork of Nova Scotia illustrator Alison Kervin, this local collaboration celebrates coastal beauty, emotional growth, and the power of connection.
Whether read before bedtime or shared during quiet reflection, My Anger Is a Wave is more than a story; it’s a keepsake for little hearts and a reminder for all ages to find peace within life’s tides.

About the Author
Hey everyone, my name is Alissa, and I’m the creator of Tails of the Maritimes Publishing. I’ve always turned to the sea for comfort; whether it’s hiking along the coast, plunging into cold waves, or simply driving to the water to reset. The ocean has always been my anchor… a place to reflect, process emotions, and reconnect with myself.
As I grew older, I realized how powerful those moments were and how important it is to recognize and navigate our emotions rather than be carried by them. That understanding became the heart of my first children’s book, a story to help young readers understand their feelings, name them, and ride their emotional waves with mindfulness and care.
Tails of the Maritimes Publishing grew from that same intention: to share stories that blend mindfulness, emotional growth, and the beauty of coastal living. As a small Nova Scotia publishing brand, our stories are inspired by real Maritime places and heartfelt experiences — reminders that home isn’t just where we are, but what we feel.
