Founded and independently run by author Alissa Comeau, Tails of the Maritimes Publishing is a small Nova Scotia brand with a big heart; creating coastal-inspired children’s books that nurture mindfulness, connection, and emotional understanding.

Each “tail” is inspired by real Maritime places and heartfelt experiences, reminding readers that emotions, like waves, rise and fall… and that it’s okay to feel them all.

Though a one-woman publishing venture, Tails of the Maritimes Publishing proudly collaborates with local artists and creatives who share the same love for the ocean and community storytelling.

Together, we bring each story to life with intention, purpose, and care — one wave and one page at a time. 🤍

A Coastal Collaboration

  • Hi, I’m Alissa!

    I’m the author and creator behind Tails of the Maritimes Publishing; a one-woman creative venture inspired by the calm and strength of the ocean. The coast has always been where I turn for reflection, creativity, and grounding.

    Through this small Nova Scotia publishing brand, I’m bringing heartfelt coastal stories to life. Stories that help children understand their emotions and find calm in life’s changing tides… one wave, one page, and one story at a time. 🤍

    My debut book, My Anger Is a Wave – A Crystal Crescent Adventure, was brought to life through a beautiful collaboration with local illustrator Alison Kervin.

    The journey has just begun. 🌊

  • Alison Kervin is the talented illustrator behind “My Anger Is a Wave” and the creative collaborator who helped bring its coastal story to life. A contemporary multimedia artist and middle school art teacher from Herring Cove, Nova Scotia, Alison’s work captures the heart of the Maritimes; blending warmth, wonder, and the quiet beauty of our coastal landscapes.

    Her illustrations are rich with emotion and authenticity, each page reflecting the calm, connection, and mindfulness at the center of the story.

    As a new mom, Alison felt an immediate connection to the theme of emotional understanding, and to the bond between the child and Drako in the story. That personal perspective shines through every brushstroke, bringing even more heart and depth to the pages.

    I’m endlessly grateful for the care and creativity she poured into this project, her artistry truly gives the story its heartbeat. 🤍
